Bennington Heights Real Estate

Quietly tucked away at the south east corner of the Bayview extension and Moore Avenue lies Bennington Heights, situated on a flat plain of land. It was first settled in the 1870s by John Cudmore and Daniel Ryan, who both operated successful market gardens on their properties. However, the Cudmore Farm was subdivided for residential development in 1889 and again in 1912. Daniel Ryan’s property was subdivided in stages between 1891 and 1946.

Small is beautiful

The homes of Bennington Heights consist of English Manor stone houses built in the 1920s and 1930s, and cottage style two-storey homes and bungalows constructed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This neighbourhood is one of Toronto’s most exclusive and expensive, and over the years has been home to many prominent residents, including author Margaret Atwood.

The one drawback of wanting to live in this neighbourhood is that homes rarely become available for sale.

Living in Bennington Heights is facilitated by excellent shopping, transportation and recreational amenities. Conveniently located at the south east corner of Bayview and Moore Avenues, is a plaza which holds a large grocery store, pharmacy, and bank. Travelling further north on Bayview Avenue, you will find the Leaside shopping district, which has excellent specialty stores, gourmet food shops and restaurants.

Charm and convenience

This charming neighbourhood has two parks, Bennington Park, located off of Bayview Heights Drive and Evergreen Gardens Park just off of Moore Avenue. Both parks have excellent facilities, which include tennis courts and a children’s playground. Bennington Heights School also offers residents the use of a soccer field and two baseball diamonds.

For nature and fitness lovers, there is the Moore Park Ravine walking trail which is accessible from Moore Avenue.

Bennington Heights is well connected to public transportation, with the Moore Avenue bus connecting residents to the Yonge subway line at St. Clair station; and for motorists it is only minutes from downtown Toronto via the Bayview Extension.
